Nagaland Police Constable Recruitment

The Nagaland Police Department has opened applications for 1176 Constable (GD) positions, exclusively for indigenous inhabitants belonging to any Indigenous Naga Tribes of Nagaland. The recruitment will be conducted through open rallies across all district headquarters starting October 6, 2025. Both male and female candidates can apply online until November 7, 2025 at 3:00 PM through the official portal at https://nagalandpolicerecruitment.in.

Application timeline and eligibility requirements for candidates

Online applications open on October 6, 2025 at 12:00 noon and close on November 7, 2025 at 3:00 PM. The Departmental Recruitment Board (DRB) and District Screening Committees (DSC) will conduct the selection process simultaneously across district headquarters. Non-indigenous applicants will not be considered for these positions.

Candidates must be between 18 and 38 years old as of September 30, 2025, with one-time age relaxation as per P&AR OM NO.AR/ESTT-10/4/2024/297 dated February 26, 2024. Serving government employees receive additional age concessions according to government notifications.

Educational requirements vary by tribal category: Backward Tribes must have passed Class 6 from NBSE or equivalent recognised board, while other Naga Tribes need Class 8 qualification.

Physical Standards and Efficiency Test requirements

Male candidates must meet a minimum height of 5.3 feet (162 cm) with chest measurements of 78 cm normal and 83 cm expanded. Female candidates require a minimum height of 5.0 feet (152 cm) with chest measurements of 74 cm normal and 79 cm expanded. Weight must be proportionate to height according to medical standards for both categories.

The Physical Efficiency Test carries 45 marks distributed across four events. Male candidates must complete a 3.0 km run within 12 minutes to qualify, with 20 marks awarded for 10 minutes, 15 marks for 11 minutes, and 10 marks for 12 minutes. Female candidates need to complete 2.0 km within the same time limits with identical marking.

Pull-up requirements differ significantly: male candidates must complete at least 8 pull-ups to qualify, earning maximum 15 marks for 12 pull-ups, while female candidates need minimum 3 pull-ups and can score 15 marks with 8 pull-ups. High jump and long jump each carry 5 marks, with first attempt success earning full marks, second attempt earning 3 marks, and third attempt earning 1 mark.

Selection process includes written test and interview

The complete selection process uses a 100-mark system: Physical Efficiency Test (45 marks), Written Examination (40 marks), Interview (10 marks), and NCC Certification (maximum 5 bonus marks). Physical and medical standards serve as screening criteria for subsequent stages.

Only candidates who clear physical and medical standards and the PET will appear for the written examination. The test consists of 80 multiple choice questions for 40 marks with a 2-hour duration, conducted exclusively in English.

Question topics include General Awareness, General Knowledge, Science, Indian History, Indian Polity, Social Sciences, Elementary Mathematics, Sports, Naga Culture and Heritage, Nagaland State and Naga Tribes, and General Mental Aptitude.

Candidates will be called for interviews based on merit in a 1:3 ratio, meaning three candidates for each post based on combined PET and written test marks. NCC certificate holders receive bonus marks: 5 marks for ‘C’ Certificate, 3 marks for ‘B’ Certificate, and 2 marks for ‘A’ Certificate.

District-wise vacancy breakdown follows tribal distribution

The 1176 positions are distributed across 20 district and sub-district locations following tribal ratio. Dimapur, which includes Chumoukedima and Niuland, offers 144 posts open to all Indigenous Naga Tribes. Mon district has the highest tribal-specific allocation with 166 posts for Konyak tribe members.

Medical examination includes mandatory drug screening

All candidates undergo comprehensive medical examination covering height, weight, chest measurements, eyesight, colour blindness, varicose veins, flat feet, knocked knees, squint eyes, and physical deformities. Mandatory drug screening for opioids and alcohol abuse will be conducted, with positive results leading to immediate disqualification.

Specific conditions result in automatic disqualification: colour blindness, distant vision worse than 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in worst eye (corrected vision), knocked knees, flat feet, squint eye condition, amputated limbs or extremities, physical deformities, and hearing impairments. Female candidates testing positive for pregnancy will undergo training in the next batch, with salary effective from their training commencement date.

Application process requires online submission and document upload

Candidates must pay a non-refundable examination fee of Rs 300 through online payment. Applications will not be accepted at PHQ or any Commissioner or Superintendent of Police offices. The admit card will be generated immediately after successful completion of the online application and can be downloaded from the portal.

Required documents include educational qualification certificates (Class 6 or 8 passed from NBSE or equivalent), proof of identity (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, or Driving Licence), indigenous status certificates (Certificate of Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland, Scheduled Tribe Certificate, and Backward Tribe Certificate signed by District Authority not below the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner), and date of birth proof (Birth Certificate, Matriculation Admit Card, or equivalent). All documents must be self-attested photocopies uploaded during the online application process.

Women reservation and final merit list details

State reservation policy does not apply to this recruitment, which follows tribal ratio. Women reservation is applicable as per government policy under Home Department Notification NO.POL-1/ESTT3/20/2014 dated September 28, 2016. Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disability does not apply to Constable (GD) posts.

The final merit list will be based on total marks from Physical Efficiency Tests, Written Test, NCC Certification, and Interview. A waiting list will be maintained in tribal ratio at 10:1 of total advertised posts, valid for 90 days from result publication. The result declaration serves as the offer letter, requiring candidates unwilling to accept to submit non-acceptance in writing within 30 days.

Selected recruits will be posted to Level-3 (GP-1800) pay scale and initially deployed in IR Battalions. They may serve within or outside Nagaland according to department guidelines. Candidates must appear at their own expense with no travel or daily allowances provided.

Mobile phones and electronic gadgets are strictly banned at recruitment venues, with possession resulting in immediate candidature cancellation. Canvassing or bringing outside influence will lead to disqualification. Physical and Medical Standards and Physical Efficiency Tests will be videographed.
