Malcolm Ebiowei’s time at Blackpool has come to an unexpected end less than a month after signing from Crystal Palace, with the winger leaving by mutual consent despite agreeing to a long-term deal only weeks earlier.

The agreement, announced in early August, tied Ebiowei to Blackpool until 2027 with an option for an additional year. The move was part of Steve Bruce’s reshaped League One squad, which had welcomed the 22-year-old as a fresh attacking option.

However, his spell amounted to just a handful of outings before the decision to part ways was finalised on 4 September. The club released a short statement wishing him well for the future, leaving supporters surprised by the swift turnaround.

Ebiowei’s journey began in the youth ranks of Arsenal and Derby County before joining Crystal Palace in 2022. His time at Selhurst Park saw limited first-team action, leading to loans at Hull City, Belgian side RWD Molenbeek, and Oxford United.

The permanent transfer to Blackpool was expected to give him stability and much-needed game time, offering a clean break after those temporary stints. Instead, it became one of the shortest stays following a permanent move at this level in recent memory.

The rapid departure has drawn comment across both local and national coverage, highlighting the unusual nature of such a quick exit after a full transfer. While reasons for the decision remain unspoken, Ebiowei’s exit leaves questions about his next step and adds another abrupt turn to a career already marked by frequent changes.
