Owen Cooper, 15, shattered Emmy records on Sunday night, becoming the youngest male actor ever to win in a major acting category. The British teenager secured Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his performance in Netflix’s “Adolescence” at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. The drama also dominated the night, collecting multiple awards across writing, directing, and acting categories.
Youngest male acting winner at Emmys
Cooper won for his portrayal of Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old entangled in the fallout of a murder case, in the four-part British series. Taking the stage at the Peacock Theatre, he called the victory “so surreal,” reflecting on drama lessons he began only a few years ago. He used his spotlight moment to encourage others to embrace risks and step outside their comfort zones.
Thanking his family, cast, and crew, Cooper stressed that the prize “belongs to the people behind the camera.” His win came against acclaimed nominees Javier Bardem, Peter Sarsgaard, Bill Camp, Rob Delaney, and his co-star Ashley Walters.

While Cooper made history, “Adolescence” itself emerged as the night’s biggest success in the limited-series arena. Cast members Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty also took home acting awards.
